Hikers from all over Ohio and beyond flock to Hocking Hills State Park for what many consider the most scenic trails in Ohio. The park offers six major hiking areas for various experience levels, each offering unique geographical features. The Ash Cave trail is handicap accessible, and the ½ mile walk through a beautiful gorge is rewarded with a view of the wide recessed Ash Cave. The Cedar Falls trails features moss-covered cliffs, remnants of an old gristmill, and one of the largest waterfalls in the region.
The park’s most popular attraction is Old Man’s Cave, accessed from meandering trail along sheer cliffs and waterfalls. Conkle’s Hollow rim trail is treacherous and circles the top of a rugged gorge, while its lower gorge trail is handicap accessible. Cantwell Cliffs is known for its deep valleys and a narrow passage to the bottom of a gorge. The Rock House trail winds through the forest to a cave that was once the hiding place to thieves. Several historical attractions can be found in Chillicothe. Adena Mansion and Gardens is the 2,000-acre estate of Ohio’s 6th governor, Thomas Worthington.
