Hikers from all over Ohio and beyond flock to Hocking Hills State Park for what many consider the most scenic trails in Ohio. The park offers six major hiking areas for various experience levels, each offering unique geographical features. The Ash Cave trail is handicap accessible, and the ½ mile walk through a beautiful gorge is rewarded with a view of the wide recessed Ash Cave. The Cedar Falls trails features moss-covered cliffs, remnants of an old gristmill, and one of the largest waterfalls in the region.

The park’s most popular attraction is Old Man’s Cave, accessed from meandering trail along sheer cliffs and waterfalls. Conkle’s Hollow rim trail is treacherous and circles the top of a rugged gorge, while its lower gorge trail is handicap accessible. Cantwell Cliffs is known for its deep valleys and a narrow passage to the bottom of a gorge. The Rock House trail winds through the forest to a cave that was once the hiding place to thieves. Several historical attractions can be found in Chillicothe. Adena Mansion and Gardens is the 2,000-acre estate of Ohio’s 6th governor, Thomas Worthington. The 1807 house includes many original family furnishings. Tour the Museum and Education Center, and stroll through the terraced flower and vegetable gardens.

See the earthen mounds built by Native Americans almost 2,000 years ago at Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, where you’ll learn all about the ancient Hopewell Indian ways of life. Experience the epic story of a legendary Shawnee leader through the Tecumseh! Outdoor Drama. Live horses and authentic battle scenes featuring live cannon fire will keep you on the edge of your seat. Discover many unique things to see and do in Belmont County. In Barnesville, see the elegance of an early 1800s estate at the 26-room Victorian Mansion.  Then tour the Dickenson Cattle Company, a Texas Longhorn cattle ranch and retail store. For glass enthusiasts, a visit to the National Imperial Glass Museum in Bellaire is a must.

Enjoy outdoor fun on the hiking and bridle trails at the 1,232-acre Barkcamp State Park near Belmont. In Martins Ferry, take a walking tour of 8 historic churches of various religions. The village of Morristown is on the National Register of Historic Places, with many homes and buildings dating back to the early 1800s.  In St. Clairsville, experience thrills at Adventure Creek challenge course and zipline.
